Standards we work to
Six standards behind every vessel
BIMCO SHIPMAN
Standard ship management agreement; contracts are primarily BIMCO SHIPMAN plus tailored crew agreements.

Quality protocols applied to ship and crew management work.
STCW
Training, certification and watchkeeping standards for every rank.
IMO DCS
Fuel data collection and reporting for the vessel.

04 · Class and Flag State
One desk for surveys and certificates
Class and Flag State compliance is an ongoing calendar, not a one-off check. The technical team tracks surveys and certificate expiry, coordinates attendance and handles recommendations, as part of technical ship management.
Records from planned maintenance, crew and fuel reporting sit together, so surveyors see one consistent story.
- Survey and certificate tracking
- Liaison with Class and Flag administration
- Records ready for audit
05 · Interactive · Compliance through the lifecycle
Where compliance sits in each phase
Technical audit
Every engagement starts with a technical audit: the vessel’s condition, maintenance records, Class and Flag State status and machinery reliability are reviewed so the plan starts from facts, not assumptions.
- Condition and records review
- Class and Flag State status
- Machinery and fuel diagnostics
Crew mobilisation
Crew are manned to STCW and MLC standards, credentials vetted (CDC, references, medicals), travel arranged and joining coordinated. Onboarding runs 14 to 30 days depending on the vessel.
- STCW and MLC manning
- CDC, references and medicals checked
- Travel logistics and joining
Voyage execution
Day-to-day technical and crew management while the ship trades: planned maintenance, spares and procurement, welfare, payroll and a 24/7 operations dispatch desk for anything that cannot wait.
- Planned maintenance (PMS)
- Spares and marine procurement
- 24/7 operations dispatch
Lifecycle oversight
Long-term oversight covers drydocking, Class and Flag State compliance, IMO DCS reporting, SEEMP Part III and CII, so the vessel stays compliant and the owner keeps clear visibility of cost and condition.
- Drydocking and superintendence
- Class and Flag State compliance
- IMO DCS, SEEMP Part III, CII

FAQ
Questions we are asked most
It works to BIMCO SHIPMAN, MLC 2006, ISO 9001:2015, STCW, IMO DCS, SEEMP Part III and CII. Together these cover contracts, seafarer conditions, quality, training, fuel reporting and energy efficiency. The Nanak Ship Management site lists them against each service.
BIMCO SHIPMAN is the widely used standard ship management agreement that sets out the manager’s duties, fees and liabilities toward the owner. Nanak Ship Management contracts are primarily BIMCO SHIPMAN plus tailored crew agreements; ask the operations team for specifics.
IMO DCS is the data collection system for ship fuel consumption, SEEMP Part III is the ship energy efficiency management plan for carbon intensity, and CII rates operational carbon intensity. Nanak’s technical management tracks the data that feeds all three.
The Maritime Labour Convention sets minimum standards for seafarers’ working and living conditions, including employment agreements, hours of rest, accommodation, food and medical care. Crew placed through Nanak crew management is aligned to it.
ISO 9001:2015 is the international quality management standard. In ship management it means documented processes, controlled records and continual improvement across technical and crew work, which gives owners traceable evidence. Nanak Ship Management applies its protocols across the services it lists.
STCW sets the training and certification standard for seafarers, and refresher and specialist courses keep certificates relevant. The Nanak Shipping Institute offers 200+ courses, including Enclosed Space Entry and Ballast Water Treatment Systems; see the featured courses.
